IDS staffs up to support jewelers' online efforts - October 07, 2008
New York - Ideal Diamond Solutions (IDS) has named jewelry industry veteran David Norman as senior sales and marketing advisor, effective immediately.
Norman will work with independent retail jewelers to upgrade their existing Web sites into IDS sites, which share one platform that offers a menu of customizable services.
Within the IDS network, vendors and retailers use their own "dashboards" to share product images, descriptions and availability with each other to facilitate Internet sales that benefit and support the traditional supply chain.
"[IDS is] the most comprehensive plan for traditional jewelers to use the Web to their best advantage," Norman said in a media release. "It gives them a well-designed site with e-commerce built in so they can connect with a virtual diamond inventory, a virtual designer inventory and information from a host of industry players. No one offers a service like this; no one has put all the pieces together like IDS does."
Norman's experience includes 23 years at Fox's Jewelers, where he ultimately served as executive vice president of merchandising and marketing; a stint with Reeds Jewelers as vice president of merchandising and marketing; a move into e-commerce as executive vice president of marketing for IJewelry.com; president of Schwarzchild Jewelers; and a lead consulting role with Crescent Jewelers to develop a Hispanic division.
For the last four years, he ran his own industry consulting business, Retail Jewelry Consultants, before joining one of his clients, eDiamondselect, full time earlier this year.
Headquartered in New York, IDS is a Web 2.0 jewelry industry Web platform that gives traditional U.S. retail jewelers a way to cost effectively compete selling diamonds and jewelry online through their own, customized Web site.

IDS is the brainchild of Larry Chasin a second generation jewelry veteran who started in a family business, but spent the last 11 years of his career working with diamond brand heavyweight, Kwiat, Inc. Prior to joining Kwiat, Larry spent 5 years working as a licensed intellectual property attorney in Minneapolis, MN and has recently used those skills to apply for United States patent protection on the revolutionary IDS affiliate network platform and its method of operation as it applies to the jewelry industry.
With Larry’s key industry ties and dedication to independent retail jewelers, IDS was created to level the online playing fi eld, and to empower the independent retail jeweler to cost effectively compete online, utilizing the jewelry industries’ premier Web 2.0 e-commerce platform.
